When is the last time someone asked you, how are you doing?” and you said…
“Good, but Tired!”, “we’re just so busy”, ” I just can’t keep up!”. I cannot tell you how many times I have said this to someone! Do you feel you are living an exhausting, breathless, overworked life? Or, have you ever sat in bed feeling totally defeated by your day? Feeling exhausted, and overwhelmed by the tasks you were unable to complete, did you say, “there just is not enough time in the day?” I feel like that is a regular conversation I have with myself! Would you say that your daily priorities allow you to live a life of order and peace, or rather they leave you with frustration and guilt?
Well guess what? Did you know that, when we say ” we just don’t have a enough time in the day, that it is a lie from Satan? Did you know that he feeds us this guilt and makes us feel overwhelmed by our days & by our priorities, and we and our culture have bought into it? When the actual truth is that ALL we have to do is the work God has assigned us to do.
Jesus Finished His Work
In the book “Lies Women Believe” the author tells us how over 70% of women, even christian women have bought into this lie. I mean let’s be honest, rarely do I ever feel like I have completed everything I have set out to do for the day. But, the truth is, we DO have enough time in our 24 hour days to complete the tasks that we need to complete. The only problem is, that we usually wake up, and we start with the priorities, that WE have decided need to be check off of our to-do list. Never once SEEKING God to find out what He has chosen for us to do for the day.
Jesus, came and lived thirty years among man, and he came to earth with a specific plan in mind. He came to carry out the plan God sent Him to do, to save man. Can you imagine 30 years to save the world? But He did it, and He did it by keeping in step with the plans God had set before Him. Then, when Jesus knew that the end of his time here on earth was coming, he looked up to the Father and prayed,
I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do (John 17:4)
God didn’t just set out plans for Jesus to follow, but he also set out a plan for us, and He tells us that he did in Ephesians 2:10. If we decided to walk in those plans we could be set free from the bondage of our crazy, busy to-do lists. Now do you notice in John 17:4 that Jesus said “the work you gave ME to do”, remember that what God is calling you to do might be different than what he is calling someone else to do. Also, what He is calling you to do today, will probably be different than what he will be calling you to do later on in life.
So how do we get focused on the plans/agenda that God is assigning to us?
- Seek: When you wake up make your morning not about “your to-do list” but instead, seeking after Gods face, His beauty, and His calling
- Study & Prayer: Allowing prayer and studying to be the first thing you do before you step out into the world. Not allowing social media, your email list, or your child’s breakfast to be the first thing
- Setting out: Do the things you feel God has called you to!
- Saying Yes: While being able to mentor 30 girls at one time seems amazing, its just not possible. You have to determine when and to who you say yes to.
You cannot say yes to every coffee date, every bible study, every small group, and reading every christian book. No, that’s just isn’t possible, and that’s ok! Find out who and what God wants you to say yes to, and go live out a life of freedom, fulfilling the priorities God has called you to!
