Or lack there of, sadly I have to report I have not been consistent with being consistent!! I guess it would not be my word of the year if I knew I could have accomplished it the first month! Now I am actually kind of happy to say that I was more consistent in some areas then I was in other areas. As I told you in my post last month, I chose this word because it is definitely an area of weakness for me. I mentioned that there were four areas that I wanted to grow and become more consistent in-
My quiet time with the GOD, Being mentored by an older lady/ mentoring a younger lady, Diet, and Exercise
Areas With No Progress
For me it was no surprise that these were the two that were the hardest for me to incorporate into my day. No excuses but we had something going on every weekend in the month of January, and with that came eating out, and lots of bad food! Putting the month of January aside, I have always struggled with clean eating and exercise. There is a scripture I have referred back to consistently throughout the past few years, to help push me through this struggle (1 Cor. 9:24-27). When I returned to it yesterday I saw that I had written a little note next to the verse, from the fall of 2012. I have literally been struggling with diet and exercise for the past 6 years, and that’s just when it was revealed to me. Only God knows how long I struggled with it before that.
How am I going to gain victory over this lack of consistency in diet and exercise? Thankfully I am not in this alone and by the cross, every sin and every struggle has been defeated! This struggle is already defeated I just need to surrender it, but how?
- Abide in Him, the Cross has finished it- “…, If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (John 5:15)
- Remember that we are sanctified, that we are washed, I can experience victory- ” Do you know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? … and this is what some of you were,…. you are now justified in the name of the Lord Jesus. ( 1 Cor. 6:9-11)
- Surrender your old self to Him- ” we know that our old self was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, … anyone who has died has been freed from sin!! (Romans 6:6-7)
- It’s only going to happen through Jesus, – “… we Have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all. “
Scripture reassures me that I can walk in constant victory over these things, I just have to rely on Christ, for direction, strength, and discipline.
Areas with Progress
In my opinion these two were a lot easier to apply to my day. I was encouraged at the beginning of the year by Well-Watered Women to join their campaign, “Word before world” you can read about it here. Basically, the moment you wake up you get in the word, before you unfold your day. This alone has really pushed me to stay focused and get me some time with Jesus, first thing in the morning. Let me be honest with you, I do really have to work at this, usually I want to get up, make breakfast, get out my phone, and tell myself “I’ll do it later”. So I do really have to work at it, and I have been praying, that God would give me a spirit that is excited to get into his word each morning.
Also in January, I joined a disciple group with a few ladies from church, it’s really new, but so far it has been sweet getting to meet with other ladies and discuss the gospel! Our leader is an older lady in her 80’s and oh my is she ever wise about scripture, I am so excited to see how God is going to use her to speak into my life!
If you are interest in getting mentored, be bold and ask an older lady in your church! If you don’t know who to ask, then pray that God will reveal to you someone to seek after! Believe me it is life changing, but also scripture tells us to (Titus 2:3-5) || (Matthew 28:19). Take note in Titus it says “older women”, you too are an older woman to someone who is younger, so make yourself available to a younger lady in your circle.
