Literally Throwing Sprinkles
“Step away from the cake, and go take a break”!
Josh said to me as I was attempting to frost my sister’s birthday Cake, blowing hot air, and yelling “are you kidding me,” and on the verge of throwing sprinkles! With every sweep of the spatula, cake pieces were falling or mixing with the icing, and the top layer of the cake broke in half! I had followed all the directions (on the box, I wasn’t about to make a cake from scratch) why was it crumpling? I was crumbling!
“Babe why haven’t you asked me for help”?
Josh called me out again, as I tried to perform 3 tasks at one time! I was trying to cook the donuts, make the funfetti popcorn, and coat the marshmallows.
I wouldn’t call myself a perfectionist, certainly not! But when it comes to party planning, a whole other person takes over. Everything has to be perfect, and just the way I picture it, and if it doesn’t come out that way then I am mad! I admit, I wanted the party to be just right, but really why hadn’t I asked Josh for help? Why was I attempting to decorate for this party all on my own? Clearly, as a result it had made me a little crazy, and my pride and lack of patience was seeping through in a hideous way! I had allowed the beauty and joy of celebrating my sister to diminish, and I had allowed my sinful nature to overrun the joyous day!
Life is Better When Truth is Revealed
We all know that silly quote, “life is better with sprinkles on top”, I disagree. Thanks be to God that I had Josh to bring me back in my moments of madness, and that truth was revealed. Life is so much better when God puts a mirror in front of our faces. It might sting a little, but it is so worth it. My eyes were opened to a few areas of my heart that I need Jesus to work on. From perfectionism came two things, pride and a severe lack of patience. Neither lead to fruit, my poor husband can attest to that!
The cake was fine and all was well, Josh and I finished getting all the desserts and decorations up and we had a blast when everyone arrived! We were able to celebrate my gorgeous sister and enjoy each others company!
