How many items are in your closet that you bought because you thought it was a much need item to add to your wardrobe, yet you never wear it? Probably too many!
This happens to us all the time! We are inspired to buy a certain item, but once we get it home it just does not fit into our style, or we don’t have the necessary pieces to make it work, so it ends up sitting at the back of our closet for months.
I cannot tell you how many times I have heard the saying “if you have not worn it in the past year, toss it!” I also cannot tell you how many pieces of clothing I have quickly tossed, because I had not worn it in the past 6-12 months, sadly I know it has been a lot! I had never once put forth any effort to be creative and make that piece work in an outfit.
How wasteful is that? How can we start to become better stewards of the items we already have?
Along with understanding that there are exceptions to getting rid of items. If you have any items that are stained, have holes, or are ruined in your closet then- yes get rid of those items. Also if you have any pieces that have gone out of style, feel free to get rid of those items as well!
I want to challenge you to get creative and work with items that you have not worn in a while. Try to incorporate them into an outfit, before deciding to toss them. Use Pinterest to help you out if you get stuck and can not come up with how to incorporate that piece.
I had purchased a blush blazer about 4 years ago, it is nicely tailored, a fresh color, and an easy layering piece, yet I never wore it. When I saw it at Forever 21 a few years back, I totally believed that it was a piece I had to have and that I would wear it all the time, WRONG. Of course I never did. I also had purchased a black tank around the same time, yet I never wore it either. I always felt like the leather detailing on the front looked like a transformer, and it was also a sheer top. So for both of those reasons I never wanted to wear it!
As some of you might know I am a stay at home momma, so our budget on spending extra on unnecessary pieces of clothing, is pretty much none existing. I am pretty much being forced to get creative with the pieces I already have, and it has been such a fun experience! Along with that, in this season I feel like God is showing me how much I truly have, and that I really need to work on my uncontent heart!
I have so much clothes, I need to be a good steward of what I already have, and I need to make it work! So for those reasons I was challenged to make an outfit with those two pieces, and I am so happy I did!
